Djentastic The equivalent of Haken "Visions" for this decade. An album like this doesn't come often, even more as a debut. Favorite track: Earwyrm.
StankishWays
StankishWays thumbnail
StankishWays I grew up on what I always liked to call storytelling prog. It's my security blanket, comfort food. This album checks all the boxes for me. Theatrical, emotive, aggressive, filthy, ethereal, sophisticated without being pompous.
The tone on ...And Then There Was One? Shhooosh. F you for that Greeny goodness 😮‍💨
I have so much more to say, but why bore anyone with my hot air? Just listen to it. Beginning to end.
I can't wait for more. Favorite track: ...And Then There Was One.

42 Lakeview Drive The house down at the end is where we reside It's old but not so bad The rent is low, for which we all are glad My father and mother Myself, the composer Live among others But rarely are bothered It's far from perfect, but it's home I am haunted by this music in my brain An opus for the ages But then It rejects my page and pen But that's life In the house At the end Of Lakeview Drive

It's 1 PM and I just woke up I should have gone to bed much earlier It's just so hard when your inner clock ignores the sun And a moment of uninterrupted peace is what you yearn for I haul my sorry self downstairs Still only half awake and barely even ten percent alive They make the same old jokes, but I don't really care They don't know what it's like to be so close, and yet so far behind Wait, there, further down the hall A pool of red from underneath the door It's Simpson, a tenant like the rest Vacant, with an ice pick in his chest Stricken down in cold-blooded murder With not a clue of who’s to blame I blinked my eyes and my world was shattered Was it my destiny to see the death of Simpson Father and mother Someone call for aid He's losing blood and he is fading, fading quickly From the living realm I'm sorry son, the telephone Won't work, he can't be saved I can't believe my own eyes This horrid act of brutal homicide Poor Simpson A tenant just like us From ashes To ashes, dust to dust Stricken down in cold-blooded murder With not a clue of who’s to blame We blinked our eyes and our world was shattered Is it our destiny to share the fate of Simpson Looking on in disbelief Still reeling from the gruesome scene I hear the sound of little feet and My heart is torn into pieces It's Simpson’s one and only daughter She only just turned six Curiosity turns into horror As she notices Struggle To find the words to say Buckle Underneath the weight of Simpson Broken The thoughts inside her head Chosen Not to understand what's happened Struggle To find the words to say Buckle Underneath the weight of Simpson Broken The thoughts inside her head Chosen Not to understand that he's been Stricken down in cold-blooded murder With not a clue of who’s to blame She blinked her eyes and her whole world was shattered Is it our destiny to disappear Left to wonder What misfortune Could befall them now

She’s not that feeble sort of child, so fragile That she could be kept down for long She’s got that manic mood that’s mildly wild It keeps her moving now that Daddy is gone It’s only been a month since then We know we prob’ly should be worried about her Soft hands keep pulling at my sleeve (Asking “Mister, won't you dance with me?”) No matter what I do they will not accept defeat It’s disconcerting just how much she cares for me Despite how little I for her A girl of my own age She’d be the perfect way To earn a respite from my ongoing struggle If I weren't so consumed I'm sure that I would find some time to give her Soft hands keep pulling at my sleeve (Still imploring “Won’t you dance with me?”) No matter what I say they will not accept defeat Anybody else Would feel estranged And then back down But maybe they Can pull me out Soft hands are dancing into the street (As if someone else is pulling strings) A smile and a wave and then they start to fade My hands reach out and catch the breeze (Soft hands, won’t you dance with me?) There’s nothing I can do, the two have met defeat Soft hands keep pulling at my sleeve There's nothing I can do

Tougher Love 02:56
Something is clearly wrong Though it’s hard to put a finger on Already three are gone Feel you no fear? We worry constantly Every night we sleep uneasily Your words of apathy So hard to hear Obsession Has gone and Robbed you of All the love In your mind and my, how time is wasted Chasing Dreams

Earwyrm 05:21
It may sound minor but I know that it’s major It may look like a simple complex but it’s compound in nature When it’s the root of every movement, it’s the motive in my steps You bet until it gets resolved, I cannot reach a state of rest I’m laser-focused, with no target Shooting blindly in the dark Out of tune with my inner muse A destination without a start How can I Relay my dream onto this page Of circles, dots, and lines Of binary dimensions Make it erase it rearrange the pieces But one of them is missing When a chord’s dissonant When a note doesn't fit Even still I insist I’m Laser-focused, with no target Shooting into the dark Lack of sleep bringing sweet relief To the siren inside How can I Relay my dream onto this page Of circles, dots, and lines Of binary dimensions Oh, I wish I knew It remains the one thing on my mind So I’ll just keep on trying to break this trend Only for it to elude me once again How can I Relay my dream onto this page Of circles, dots, and lines Of binary dimensions I wish I knew

Isolation Now my burden I can’t quite remember How I got here When you find yourself alone But you realize it’s been that way all along Just remember where you draw your strength from When you’re trapped inside this house But you’re the one who’s keeping you from getting out Only reaching the end can save you now One PM and I just woke up again From a delusion I composed, yeah Blink my eyes, but hearing only silence I’m reminded grimly that I’m on my own now I blinked my eyes and the world was shattered Is it my destiny to still remain When you find yourself alone But you realize it’s been that way all along Just remember where you draw your strength from When you’re trapped inside this house But you’re the one who’s keeping you from getting out Only reaching the end can save you now Now I’m trapped inside this house And I’m the one who’s keeping me from getting out Only reaching the end can save me now

That was it That was all that I had in me The damn thing I gave half a century Lying in wreckage on the ground Through the smoke I’m not sure I believe it Another human voice calls out my name Instant recognition A grey and haggard face rises to meet me With eyes a shade of blue just like my own Like looking in a mirror that’s been ravaged by the slow passage of time A vision that disrupts my state of mind Staring into the eyes of an Older one of me, I begin to see Everything that is and was Within the realm of possibility You And I Have seen some pretty horrifying sights in our in our life But what I’m gonna tell you might just be the one to top it all The truth is that the universe collapses all around us In a sphere containing only this old house It was too weak to try to keep our friends and family living But now that I am here, we can turn this thing around Peering into the mind of this Stranger one of me, I can clearly see Everything that is and was Within the realm of possibility, truly I believe that Between the two of us We’ll break this trend of cosmic entropy “So then, do you know why I am here?” “You're here to help me complete the work, so we can get back to normal.” “No… that time has long since passed.” I hope by now you understand That this would always be the plan The world you gave your life to make Cannot be built by your own hand I hope by now you see the signs Another waits to claim the prize The goal you seek can be achieved If you but let go of your pride “Wait… you're saying I must go back? And give everything I’ve worked for… everything I’ve achieved… to another?” “As I have done, for you.” “And if I do this thing, if I do this thing you ask, what then?” “The boy shall succeed.” “And if I refuse?” “Then you, and everything you know… shall die.” Death for us Life for him So the cycle can begin again Giving up What was mine So another one can make it right Is this how We proceed Hit rewind Not repeat Fifty years Thrown away To avoid making My mistakes This is it This will be All I have Everything he’ll need Sending a thought through time to a Younger one of me, on the chance that he Might reverse the damage done And live the life I didn’t get to lead So he can finally see Everything within the realm Of possibility

Twelve o’ clock PM and I awaken suddenly The vision from my slumber still so clear in memory Rush downstairs Simpson’s there “Don’t go in that room lest you be wounded mortally” Fight or fly Change or die That is why I know I can make it right The dream I had last night has shown me How things should be And what happens if I don’t succeed Soft hands and voices Beckon to join, join them in the dance So to alter their fate I’ll dance Fight or fly Change or die That is why I know I can make it right The dream I had last night has shown me How things should be And what happens if I don’t succeed Tougher love is simply not enough It's all for nothing without a win Can the aid of hallucinations Help me finally reach the end So I’m laser-focused, right on target Locked and loaded, ready or not One last round, better make it count It's never or now, I'm gonna take the shot Victory comes at break of dawn and I can breathe at last An opus for the ages lies completed in my hands Rush to share With all who’ll hear The world is waiting for someone to wake it from its rest Fight or fly Change or die That is why I know I have made it right The dream I had last night, it showed me How things should be And they are now that I’ve made it right The dream I had last night has saved us all And we’re free Everything is now as it was meant to be

So we’ve reached the end Together with the family and friends Grateful for our time As well as for our newfound peace of mind Once torn asunder One from another Now that it’s over I’m elated to see my work complete I no longer feel the need for solitude I can create and live life too Having broken through the trend I can pick up my page and pen Again Again Again Again Again Future undefined It’s good to be alive In the house At forty-two Lakeview Drive
